The Master Painters Association of Queensland has approved of the Code of Ethics as a means of encouraging the highest standards of business conduct. It is issued so that all members of the Association may together strive for the improvement of the trade and the development of those personal and business attributes, which are the basis of all good trading relations. In all matters relating to the interpretation of this Code a member shall recognize the authority of this Association and its constitution.
- A member shall observe the highest standards of honesty in all of his transactions, and shall in advertising avoid all use of false titles, ambiguous statements and misleading claims.
- A member shall endeavour to create friendly co-operation with his fellow members and assist whenever possible, and shall not criticise another member's account or workmanship without first discussing it with the Master Painters concerned; if agreement is not reached the matter be referred to the Association.
- A member shall carefully avoid the enticement of labour from another member by offering of higher wages, bonuses, or better conditions.
- A member shall not cancel a contract undertaken in good faith without good and sufficient cause and only then by mutual consent of the parties.
- It shall be the endeavour of the members of this Association to provide the best services at a reasonable charge, after taking into consideration all factors and the requirements of the trade and services rendered.
- A member shall not supplant another member on any job unless after consultation and agreement with that other member, should agreement not be found possible the matter in dispute shall be referred to the Association for settlement.
- A member shall endeavour to protect the public and the Trade generally against the lack of skilled tradesmen, and shall concern himself regarding the employment of his quota of apprentices and their proper training.
- A member shall not pay to any person secret commission, discount or rebate in order to gain advantage over other members.
- Should a member be advised by this Association that a person or persons with whom he is commercially associated is acting, of has acted, in a manner at variance with its professed ethical standards, that member shall rectify the situation as soon as is practicable, either by severing such commercial association, or otherwise to the satisfaction of the executive.
- A member shall at all times consider the preservation and promotion of harmonious employer-employee relationships throughout the industry.
